Spark Plug and Air Intake Question
Howdy all! I have a '99 Tacoma that's new to the family, it's a daily driver so I got the 2WD Prerunner TRD. In any case, I was wondering which spark plugs I should use on it. It comes with the iridium plugs, but I was under the impression these were supposed to be for the 4 cylinder engines (I have the 3.4), and these required the plugs with the two tops on it. Just curious which route to go on this one.
On a different note, since the truck is entirely stock, I was thinking about upgrading to a cold air intake, but was wondering if it made a big difference on these engines. I ask only because I installed one on my '94 4Runner and it really didn't do much. Let me know what you guys think, I'm excited to dive into a new engine model, thanks!

I used six Denso plugs (model K16TR11, I believe) that I got from the dealer.

Use multi ground plugs...
Denso K16TR11 from the dealer
or
NGK BKR5EKB-11
.......
or for double platinum $$$, NGK BKR5EKPB-11
For more power from intake do a search for "deck plate" and "elbow mod"

I vote for using the multi-ground plugs unless you can find some good dual platimum or dual iridium plugs. The 5VZFE uses a reversed polarity spark on half the plugs and that will wear out a normal single ground plug very fast. More on that: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f2/e...h-bank-177019/
Don't change the intake, you can't beat the stock setup. Except as noted by 97ltd the "deck plate" and "elbow mod" are worth doing.

Stick to OEM Denso or NGK plugs on the 3.4. I tried the Bosch Irridium plugs and was very unimpressed. Performance was worse and they only lasted a short time.
Like everyone else has said, a cold air intake is a waste of $$$. I did the S&B setup on mine and noticed very little power or MPG gain. The elbow, deckplate and ISR (intake silencer removal) mods are all worthwhile and cost nearly nothing.
