1st timer 3.4 swap. i will have questions!!

ok here it goes. i have a 91 4x4 runner manual and intend on putting in a 3.4. i just purchased a 3.4 out of a 99 4x4 runner automatic. i have been doing quite a bit of research on this site and thanks to you guys i should be able to handle it.
1st question has to do with the change of the oil pan. i can use my 3.0 pan and get a new gasket, but what about the oil strainer. do i need to use one out of a 3.0 also. i have to get a new one anyway cause im sure there is some metal peices down in there cause it was knocking for quite a while.

2nd question has to do with the wiring. since ors is no longer in buisness who else makes a plug and play wiring kit.

Yes you will need to move the oil pan, baffle and pickup tube from the 3.0 to the 3.4.

There aren't any companies out there doing swap harnesses. There are a few individuals that have stated they can make one for you, one on this board but I can't remember his username.

Good luck with the swap. Try searching a bit more though. You couldn't have done that much research if you didn't know about the oil pan. The ORS swap instructions are like 4 posts under yours.

And there is no gasket involved with the oilpan swap. Toyota uses Form In Place Gasket material (FIPG). I used Permatex Right Stuff for mine http://www.permatex.com/products/Aut...sket_Maker.htm

As far as wiring goes....you can do it yourself. It's a little intimidating but if you set your mind to it you can figure it out. I'm not sure if you will have the correct plug but if your 4runner is a late model 91 you should have at least one of the same "body plugs" on both harnesses and you can re-pin the 3.4 harness to work with the plug in your kick panel. Then you can take the male side of the other plug and get a female plug for the 3.4 and make your own little adapter.

so i got a few things done. it was time to take out the old motor. while the engine was out i decided to take everything off of the fire wall, inner fenders, and core support. with that stuff out i drilled out the old battery box and welded a new one together on the ds. so since i am a production painter by trade i decided i should also do a color change. i chose to spray black for the engine bay, cause it would look good with any color i decide for the outside.
at first i base coated and cleared it but it was way to shiny. and since this isnt goin to be a show truck, i sprayed a couple coats of flat clear over it.

Wow. Now your going to have to scrub the motor with a toothbrush. It would be a shame to put a dirty motor in there now.

For the record, I believe it's user TMZ doing the harnesses. I didn't use a pre-made one. What you need to do is get the wiring diagram for your two body harnesses (passenger side kick panel, behind the computer) and cross-reference the pins on the body harness to the functions on the 3.4's wiring harness.

They're pdf files right from the factory manuals. They're really, really good. I've seen the ones from the aftermarket repair manuals and they aren't even close to the factory ones. Well worth the $10 per day. You'll be able to download all the manuals you need in probably less than 2 or 3 hours.

oh i forgot to add that the mechanic at my work replaced all the gaskets, seals, timing belt and bearings, water pump, thermostat, plugs and wires on the donor engine. all new belts and hoses wil also be installed soon.
i have a question though, the yard that i got the 3.4 out of cut the fuel line instead of undoing it. can i use the fuel line off of the old 3.0 motor or do i need one from a 3.4 and bend it to the other side?

I used my 3.4 fuel line. I took it off and rotated it 180 degrees. It reaches the connector down by the frame rail easily. You could either have a fuel line made up or try to find another at a junk yard.

2X

Super easy. Just loosen the bolt into the rail and turn the hose 180 degrees. If you want to get really really fancy you could re-bend the metal flaring tube to form to the head a little tighter. I didn't want to risk breaking the hose but I think it can be done.

i couldnt' get the 3.0 pump to fit. As for a/c i went with 3.4 pump with 3.0 hoses to the plate that bolts to the pump. https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f160/ read through all the threads.. all your questions are answerd in there.

ok i got a question involving swapping the motor mounts. am i supposed to swap both pieces from the 3.0 to the 3.4 or just the bottom section that connects to the frame. i was wondering cause i was working on it today and i thought that swapping both sections over would affect were the 3.4 ac compressor bolts up and then it would throw off the belt alignment. i hope i made some sort of since.

My swap was almost two years ago now, but if memory serves I just unbolted everything right off the block of the 3.0 and bolted it right onto the 3.4. Man, I wish I could offer you more than that.
