01 Tacoma equipped with Toyota factory alarm but no remote?

01 Tacoma equipped with Toyota factory alarm but no remote?
Hey I'm new to this forum, but I wondered if someone might be able to help me.
I purchased a used 2001 Toyota Tacoma from a used car dealer.... I don't have a remote, but there is a Toyota factory installed security system on my truck (I think - due to the 'Toyota Security' module displayed on my lower dashboard - see attached picture).
I called the Toyota dealer to ask how much to get a new remote and they said I would first have to have a certified technician look at it (approx $90), then get the code and buy the remote ($175), then pair it and make it work ($50).
Since I can't really afford $300, and this is more just something I'd 'like' to get working on my truck, does anyone know a cheap alternative to getting a remote as well as how do I find out what the code is to my system? where do I look? P.S. I have no owners manual!!
