My 99 Tacoma story....with pictures

Wait till you hear this story.I drove 130 miles to buy my 99 Tacoma 4x4 reg cab in June.I purchased it from Coggin toyota in jacksonville .When I got there I noticed a small tick in the engine. The engine only had 105000 miles on it. For peace of mind I asked about purchasing a warranty. The warranty was $2000 dollars,It covered 2 years or 24000 miles (basically just powertrain),After putting 2000 miles on the truck I decided to have it checked . I was told the engine had to be torn down to be inspected to find the problem. When they dropped the oil pan they found 2 parts of a round clip, and after pulling the pistons it was discovered that the parts were the retaining clip for the #3 piston pin. The # 3 cylinder was beyond shot. Anyway the warranty company sent a brand new engine from L.G.Q in Texas, complete from waterpump, timing cover and oil pan, even a new exhaust manifold and heat shield. The bill was $7000 dollars ($3800 for engine and $3000 labor + rental car 15 days. If I didnt get that warranty I would have been screwed. Anyway the truck is perfect now. Im sure the dealership knew there was a problem from the beginning. If I didn't buy that warranty , I would have driven the truck right through thier showroom. When you look at these pictures it is hard to imagine how the bad engine ran so well. It ran perfect except for a light ticking noise .If youd like to see these pics here you go, PS. look at all the metal shavings on the timing sensor in the bottom of the block.(it is on the right next to the timing chain)

Damn...nice truck, and good call on the warranty...how much did you pay for the truck itself?

Damn,
That is crazy! Glad you got everything worked out and didn't have to bend over to get the truck back on the road. If you hadn't gotten the warranty and they refused to fix it they would have a call from a lawyer before finishing the word no. This is the 2nd thread now that is a great reminder to anyone buying a used car no matter where its from. Have it checked out before ANY money changes hands. Hope you enjoy it!
