Hey guys....

I have a somewhat newb but somewhat curious question.

I have a project 1987 4runner turbo that I wanted to beef up.

My auto trans is slipping and howling going in between gears.

My question was this....what would be a direct replacement or bolt in beefier auto trans and transfer case.

I eventually, once I get it up and running, want to do some light wheelin and use it as a daily driver.

I dont want to sacrafice economy or performance but I guess I might be asking too much?

I appreciate any and all suggestions.

economy and performance...are we talking about an 87 turbo 22 rt ?

its gonna always be as economic as any turbo will ever want to be, and definately lack performance compared w/some v-8s out there..but dont worry about any of that..

lets focus on that auto tranny...
i would suggest a 5 speed or a metric mechanic

not sure if that will even / ever bolt up, but its performance...

i would suggest the 5speed , keeping it simple..and a new clutch..

sounds lke your clutch is getting ready to barf

 

Thanks for the info....so you are saying the clutch packs are going?

I guess that will be expensive.

So there are no other automatics that I can use?
