I was trying to figure out how much it would cost to get a hood with a hood scoop for my 2nd gen? Any ideas?

I haven't really looked anywhere, it just popped into my head.

But yeah, the 4th hoods are completely different than the 3rds.

hood scoop

Chris,

From everything I've looked at you are looking at about $350 parts and about $350 painting, to get it done right. Maybe a bit more or less depending on what kind of deals you get. I have a link at work that talks about the whole thing to a tee if you are interested PM me and I'll send it to you.

A hood scoop will not make it faster.

Really? I was hoping the extra wind resistance caused by it would somehow turn into speed. LoL.

I just LOVE the look of them, but its definately not worth 700 bucks!

Salvaged

I got a guy looking for me one off a salvaged rig. He specializes in finding stuff like that for Toyotas in Bham, AL. I'll let you know how it works out. I'm hoping to get the hood and accessories for about $150 and the painting perhaps by a friend for cost.

A hood scoop may not make it faster, but it definitely gives you points for style.

Yeah, it definately adds some good looks to it!

I wish I had more people like that around here, to look for stuff for me. Oh well, let me know how it turns out. If you can find two, maybe you could ship it to me. LoL.

PM me about it!

Thing is with a hood scoop............

You really need the turbo diesel engine underneath it!

Thanks for the replys guys I checked my local Toyota dealer and they said it would cost betwwen $400 to $500 for a 4th gen and I can get a 3rd gen for $200. I am gonna fab one on to my Tundra as soon as I start my job and the cash tarts rolling in.
I think I will go with the 4th gen cause it is a bigger scoop and it will look proprotionate.

I can get a 3rd gen for $200
Is this the price for an unpainted hood with the scoop or a separated "add on" to the existing 3rd Gen Hood?????

why don't you just buy an aftermarket "hood scoop" instead of a whole hood and fabing it?

It is the entire hood and is primered

Mozzie
There is no aftermarket hood of anykind for the Tundra , so this is why I am going with the 4Runner hood.

So, you're not even considering the RAV4 scoop? But it would look so cute!

From what I've seen, the aftermarket ones look like garbage. The Toyota ones are much cleaner. But, I haven't looked a whole heck of a lot either.

Yeah, I have noticed that before on other cars like my friends Chevy. But I am assuming that the price difference between a whole new hood and just the aftermarket hood scoop will be considerable. Anyway, some links to a hood scoop online would be cool.

I need to get my other stuff done first and then I will see about the scoop.

Thanks for your help.

I have thought about getting the hood scoops but I do not want to mold a ABS plastic hood scoop to a metal hood(but thats just me). Besides the 4th gen 4Runner hood scoop looks so cool.

to those that want the plastic scoop...

if you get a plastic scoop from JC Whitney or somewhere like that, go ahead and mount it, then use bondo all the way around to smooth out the edge so it's flush. The lip around the scoop is what makes it look like ass. Blend that in and then get it painted. Might cost a little bit, but it's better than reshaping a hood to match a 2nd gen or whatever rig it is.
