Oil leak! Help please!...

We just replaced the front oil seal on me 22re in my 85 4runner. Due to the fact that oil was everywhere on the front of the engine, we assumed it had to be coming from the front oil seal and getting flipped all over the place. We also put a repair sleeve on the pulley while we had it apart.

The oil leak is still there, however. So the only other place it could be coming from as far as I can tell would be where the head bolts to the top of the timing chain cover. Does anyone have any advice before we go ripping the head off as to other places to check?

I hosed the engine down, and then oil would then drip out of the underside of the crankshaft pulley. It's not a small leak, so it can't be ignored for any length of time. My plans are to pressure wash it again and try watching the head gasket there. Any advice would be much appreciated!

Yea. I was hoping that it was just the valve cover, but it's clean up there. It's basically the head down. It's just getting flipped everywhere (even on the hood).

What about the timing cover gasket? I just fixed a leak on mine a couple weeks ago. It was shooting out in a solid stream and made a heck of a mess.

there's a hidden bolt under where the distributor comes in. take the valve cover off, then the distributor out. it might be hidden under a pool of oil. you might tighten that a little, but be careful not to over tighten.

If you want to find the leak, shampoo/clean the engine, then start it up and look for it.

Yes, it's possible for the top of the timing cover to leak.

Did you check the pulley for a groove where the seal rides?
