Question air cleaner and smog help

hey all. i want to put an aftermarket aircleaner on my 87 22r. my truck still needs to pass emissions untill it is 25 years old. is there anything i should know about putting a new one on smog wise? will i have to remove anything that is necessary to pass emissions?

thanks a bunch

i dont think that you will pass a visual test if you dont have your stock air box...

do u know why this would be? i dont think i understand why they would not let me have something that would improve airflow therefore improving fuel economy and therefore reduce emissions... from what i understand the stock airbox is very restrictive and should be removed immediately.

thanks anyway

Depending on the parts, may or may not be of a problem... may cause an argument though.... If the parts you install have C.A.R.B. exemption orders, they have no other choice but to allow them since there are two basic standards- Federal and California, and since California standards are more strict than Federal, and states have the option of adopting California emissions standards or following Federal standards, California standards are acceptable in lieu of Federal standards. However, if the system does not meet the basic Federal standards, you are S.O.L.

/me lolz. I pointed you in the right direction. If you can't do it, then fine.
Use the stock aisin carb, use the stock air filter housing and PCV connections for your emissions tests, then go do whatever you want.

Results may very, but I passed a gold shield station (after being labeled a gross polluter) without an air box and with one of those cheap ricer high flow wantabe cone filters.
