So I was trying to mount my used Total Chaos kit LT yesterday and quickly realized that theres was no way the were going to fit into the lower mounts. The arms are nearly 1/2" narrower than the LCA mounts are.

So has anyone else had this problem? I know know the rears like to spread inwards but I already had that braced. Also if someone has an accurate measurement of what the distance should be, that will verify for me that its the truck and not the TC kit.

Im also kinda stumped on how to push them back together if it is the truck.

Oh yeah, its exactly the same on both sides. This is on my 87 IFS 4x4.

 

Do you jump your truck? You may have spread the frame a little.

 

I haven't jumped it, Ive been building it up for the pat year. But Im sure the previous owner did, lol...

I got one arm in finally, but Id still like some measurements so I can weld some tube supports in to beef it up.

 

I hate to sound like an idiot but if you'll tell me what an LCA is I'll go out to my 86 and get some measurements for you.

The problem with the LCA mounts is that it's hard to tell exactly what is bent... is the forward mount too far forward, or the rear mount to far back?
Even once you get the arms bolted in, I'd suggest taking the truck to a frame shop and having it looked at and fixed even better than you've done.

Then... when you get it all situated, look in mt_goat's thread, which I'm sure you're doing anyways, and maybe have someone fab up some kickers from the rear LCA mount (right on the adjuster bolt) to the tranny cross member like my lift kit has, even though you don't have a bracket lift kit, something like this should help keep those things from spreading wide again... and a rear LCA truss from sonoran steel or even Downey won't hurt to get either, particularly since you're doing an LT setup, you will be increasing the stress on the mounts... tell me the truth... you're going to jump it aren't you.

 

In my case, I was able to tell by eyeballing it carefully.

 

It already has the TC brace on it. I was planning on bracing it between arm mounts as well.

Those links off the back of the mounts are a real good idea. I think I'll do something like that and tie it into my custom made Trans crossmember or the original trans mount like they do.
