OK, so I'm a bit deranged. I had some 3 series M sport package wheels leftover from a car I owned a few years ago. I looked at Clappy, my trusty 2wd '85 pickup- who is currently shod with AR NASCAR wheels 15x7 with 225/70-15 tires- and said to myself, "Self, are BMW wheels possible on this old beast?" "Yes," said I. "With the correct adapter design." So after some measuring with a digital caliper, I called and had the prototype made.

So here it is...



















The front wheel is the OEM BMW M double spoke 68 wheel, 17 x 7 1/2 with a 41mm offset.
The rear wheel is the same model but is 17 x 8 1/2 with a 50mm offset.
Good clearances. The spacers are hubcentric to the truck and to the wheels. The truck is 5 on 114.3mm, the wheels are 5 on 120mm.

The nice part is BMW wheel standards- they keep the same lug pattern, the same center bore (72.56mm on all cars except the 1996-2003 5 series, which were 74.1mm), and they change the offsets according to the series. Thus the 3 series wheels work best on the truck. And there are more wheels to choose from for 3 series BMW's than just about any other car in the world. Yes, I'm nuts. Watch out, it's contageous...

How big is the centerbore on the BMW wheels? I just recently bought some 18" Chrome wheels by Ultra with a CB of about 75mm (my 3rd gen T4R has 108mm). I am looking into getting wheelspacers to make them fit but am not sure how thick to get them. Do i need to clear the hub with the width of the wheel spacer? Please let me know if you have any ideas.

Looks really sharp. When you get around to a more permanent install with tires on make sure you use a good thread locker on the lugs holding the adapter to the rim so the don't come loose on you.

im not one for doing something like that, yes i have come out of the woodwork, but NOT to flame you. actually looks pretty decent. sure as hell a lot better than the stock ones, imho. id be careful with the spacers though... make sure theyre locked down tight. cant wait for more pics

 

now if you can just have some centercaps made up with the toyota "t" on them that would be the icing on the cake.
