FINALLY New tires and SPOOL installed!

I figure 4 years of web wheeling is enough, so its time to get back out on the trails.

I have had a dedicated trail rig for many years, but never really any way to get it to the trails. Now that I have my dodge, and a trailer, its no problem. My buddy recently invited me to a trail run at Evans Creek here in WA, so I figured now is a good a time as any to dust her off and wheel the %@#$ out of her!

Since the day I bought it, someone had installed a lockright locker in it. Many wonder why I always hated those things.....well reason is it would always unlock at the most inoportune moments; IE climbing a big hill. It is a piece of junk, and not streetable IMHO. So, i found a NEW spool on CL for $120, and had it shipped to me!

Took the spool to NW Differential here in WA (http://www.diffman.com) and had Dan install it for me. BTW, if you live in WA, and ever need any axle work done, Dan at NW Differential is the MAN!

Here are some pics:

The old tired lockright: For sale!

I also found on CL, a BRAND NEW never installed set of 33" TSL Swampers for $600. You read it right, $600. Thats only $150 a TIRE! CHEAP!

Stock 4.10 gears. The lockright really is busted and keeps unlocking and popping. It would need some sort of rebuild or the like.

Not sure, i dont really know how lockrights are put together. I know that one of the pieces has some broken metal where the pins slide in. Maybe thats why my locker was always popping and coming loose at the worse of times.

Maybe is wasn't quite 4 years....maybe 2 or so. But i parked her after the last wheeling trip i went on because of the busted lockright. Then I made excuse after excuse to myself for why I couldn't go out. Finally I got off my Yotatech post whoring butt and made some changes lol. Maybe now I will actually get some pics up!!

generally once a lockright starts unlocking and skipping when under load means that most likely its junk, i have one that i ran for a long time in my front of the 4runner, until it finally started skipping really bad and most of the time only one front wheel would lock, also my pins and springs were perfect, the teeth just got rounded off and wouldnt hold anymore

Teeth aren't rounded off, i just think the casing piece are broken.

Thankfully, I didn't pay any money to have this junk installed. The PO did. I got smart and got meself a spool. Granted its a trail only rig.

I am going wheelin the weekend of the 25th with a group of 12 FSJ's.

As for the SAS, that may be a while. Maybe during the off season of racing. I have the setup, but I need hubs and a Hi-Pinion diff to top it all off.

If you want to send me a bunch of cash, i can have it done by friday! lOl

i've only seen 2 sets of swampers that looked like that...is there a reason they look like that. ..are those NEW..or are they old...they say TSL on them...but my TSL's look NOTHING like that...i mean..your tread pattern is solid...mine have breaks in it...and it doesnt have those tiny treadblocks on the sidewall either...anybody got an explanation???

yea, i was wondering about that too. The stock number was SAM-79R. They are pretty common from what I understand. Maybe they just redesigned the tread setup? I am going to get a tire groover and cut some of the tread blocks out.

faulty locker? poor excuse not to still wheel it! lol all the more reason to beat on it harder!

I ran Tahuya a week ago, buddy n I hadnt been up there and decided to check it out. It's mild for the most part but still can fill a full day without really touching the same trail twice. Good way to spend a sunday.

Havent been to Evans yet.. Im reluctant to wheel this summer cuz school/training has sucked me financialy dry and I can't afford to fix anything i break!

I wanna see some wheeln pics man!

I'll get a lot of pics when we go wheelin the end of july. I might hit some local trails sooner. But since I can't afford tires as often, she is a trailer queen now. No sense scuffing all the rubber off on the road when I have a trailer with much cheaper tires
