I have a 91 Toyota ext cab 4x4 pickup with the 4 cyl 22 re 175,000 miles. What all types of upgrades to increase performance (motor) can be done?

You might want to give us a little more information or some parameters. But you will not get major power out of a 22re you can but you have put some money into it.
The best thing you can do is just increase the flow of air through the engine through an intake and headers and exhaust.

yeah the 22re isnt really a good preformance engine without dropping serious money.. its a great relible engine,, treat it good it will get you where you need to go for a long time!!
