Cool Will a small Oil Leak cause low Pressure.

I have a small oil leak and wondering is that why i get low pressure after driving for a while

I orginally thought it is from the viscosity getting low from my car overheating after driving

the leak is located right about where my skid plate ends

how hard is that to fix

thanks for any replies

Well if its near the skid plate. It may just be the oil pan gasket going out. The oil pan is not that easy to get too but not that hard either. You gotta drop a few things to get too it.

A small leak wouldn't cause low oil pressure. If that were the case, every older vehicle owner would be scrambling to stop them.

This page will explain some causes:

Also, what makes you think you have low oil pressure? How low is it?

if you're using the stock gauge its not even close to accurate. if it shows something theres more than 5psi. if it doesn't show anything there isn't. thats about all its good for.

Oh and as your oil gets hotter the viscosity goes up. but unless you're running something really heavy its not going to cause oil pressure issues.

well whats a good low price oil gauge to buy

im not trying to pump to much money in my 4runner because of its multiple problems but if i can slowly diagnose them with low price equipment that is what i will do

Any basic mechanical oil pressure gauge will work.
The hard part is figuring out where/how to hook it up if you're going to leave it on the truck...

I wouldnt bother unless you have some other reason for thinking you have low oil pressure..
