ok, well i figured this would happen w/ the 285 muds, and they rub the upper a-arms a bit. by looking at the following pics, does it look like one 1/4" spacer from wheelers will prevent the rubbing, or will i need more spacing than that? for now, theyre only rubbing the lugs a bit, and the truck will be sitting, so its fine. lmk what you think.
-either ill get the spacers
-spacers and grind the a-arms a bit (if i absolutely have to)
-new rims in a month

 

If you are planning on getting new rims in a month, I would just wait as to not waste time/money on the other options. Does it only rub at full flex? If so, you should be able to drive it on the street and not rub right? What kinda rims you getting?
If you were not planning on getting rims until this problem came up, I would consider doing A-arm grind or upgrade to one with a lower profile and uniball. What kinda tire did you go with? My 285's dont rub with the factory rims. Seems like some people do some don't; guess it depends on the tire.

 

I would wait until you can get new rims with the correct backspacing. You're looking for ~4-4.5" backspacing in a 16x8" rim. Do not grind into your UCA's as they're hollow and will weaken when ground too far.

My 285's don't rub the UCA's, but do rub the frame at full lock. But they're an AT/MT hybrid and I've heard that MT's generally rub more often. Good luck!

 

Tech1 black rockcrawler rims from 4wheel parts 16x8 with 4.25" is what I used with 285 MTR's with no rubbing.

 

just get some 1 or 1.25" spacers. quality ones from allpro or marlin or trailgear. ive ran 1.5" spacers up front only to clear 315's on stock uca's. no problems what so ever. just make sure your alignment is up to spec (get it done after spacers) and your wheels are balanced properly and you should be good to go.

 

I just put 285 MTR's on my Runner two days ago and they do rub at full droop, just sitting there there is like 1/8" of clearence. I was able to use a 1/4" spacer to get it to stop rubbing. I will be getting some new wheels soon so the spacers will work for now.
