K&N FIPK Filter replacement

I just finished up a 3.4 conversion on a '94 4runner. I used a K&N FIPK 70-9013, for CARB compliance and ease of installation. I used the ORS crossover and a 2.5" exhaust system. I decided NOT to use the stock intake system for the following reasons.

1. Both intake systems were going to take a fair amount of cutting and fitting to install. This is a 3.4 conversion into a '94 4runner, not a stocker.

2. The FIPK provides 6-7hp over the stock, proven via dyno runs.

3. KEY ISSUE - I didn't have the stock intake system. Buying the stock intake or the FIPK was about the same amount of $$.

The logical investment was the FIPK. I got 6-7hp for the same amount of $$.

The "deckplate" mod of the ORIGINAL INTAKE SYSTEM may be a cost effective way to increase HP. I might have tried it, but it is kinda hard to modify a system that you do not have. There sure seem to be a lot of people who think it works. Anyone have any documented dyno runs, before and after, for the deck plate mod, all by itself?

I am aware that K&N has a mixed reputation. I would have used an Ingen kit, but they don't make a kit with a CARB EO number.

What air filters can be used on a K&N FIPK, besides the K&N?

Once I pass the CARB smog referee, I can make some changes.

Did you read up on the "Deckplate" mod. Its essentially doing the same thing, but, for a lot less money.

As for your question, I don't know off hand which would fit. Are there special connectors at the filter end of the straight tube? If not, it would seem to me that most cone-style filters would fit, since that tube should be the same diameter throughout to the TB.

no special connections, clamped on.

id guess that the CARB ref wouldnt know the diff between filter brands.

Dude I think they both work some say the K&N doesn't work but i chose that route. Deckplate is cost effective and you can protect induction of air more than the K&N. go with what fits and cost effective if it matters
