i have a 1999 limited 4x4 4runner with the factory 16" 5 spoke wheels. I need to know what size wheel spacers are necessary to clear the upper arms with 315/75/16 tires. I have the limited with the wider flares, so hopefully they won't stick out too far. i saw some 2" but don't want to get those if 1.25 or 1.5 would work.

Anyone ave any pics of 4runners with stock wheels and spacers so i can see how far they stick out? Thanks

 

You might also want to look at just getting a set of properly backspaced wheels. Do a search on this looking for a post by Albuquerque Jim. He is the only one I know running 315/75s on stock 3rd gen wheels.

 

Well, I'm running rims that have close to the same backspacing as the stockers.

I have 1.5" wheel spacers, and they clear fine.

1.25" should work too.

Check out spidertrax wheel spacers. They are blue too.

 

I'd say 1.5". Judging from the sidewall of a lot of 315's I've seen you'll need that little extra clearance. With stock wheels (sport wheels) I need 1.5's to clear the upper A arm with 305's - that gives me about 1/4" clearance. I know mine is a different gen truck but hopes that helps.

 

thanks for the advice. I really like the look of the stock wheels otherwise i would get different backspaced wheels. i think i will go with the 1.5 then , how far will it stick out past the limited fender?

 

i tried searching for Albuquerque Jim's 4runner and couldn't find any posts or pics he had with the 5 spokes and the 315's ,i found the one with black steelies though and think i would like to get those with m/t's, but i want the 5 spokes for the a/t's . anyone have a link of Albuquerque Jim's runner on 5 spokes or know what spacers he used?

 

I think Jim sold those wheels a while back. I don't recall seeing any pictures with those wheels and 315's on them. If you find them post em up.

Front should match the rear IMO.

THere is also the option (as someone mentioned) of getting rims with the correct BS. Mickey Thompson Classic II--do a search on them and you will get the part number and it there should be a couple threads about what BS is needed.

 

P.S.--that is what i am running with 35's--as soon as my diffs come back from the shop

 

I'm running the MT Classic II's (3.5" BS) with my 315s (P/N: 368412) and a set of shaved UCAs.

 

im running 1.5" (front only) spacers, on 8" wide 4.5" bs'd cruiser wheels, stock uca's. theres about a half inch clearance between the sidewall and the UCA. less than 1.5" spacer may work with the stockers, but remember with a narrower wheel, the tires will be a bit wider. wouldnt recommend a 7"er, on a 12.5" tire, but some have used it and seems to work well.

 

Darn it, I was told that no 16" rims come with a 3.5" backspacing... even the local 4x4 shop I called said that the MT Classic II's didn't have 3.5" backspacing for a 16" rim... crap.

 

I had 1.5" adapters on the rear wheels of my 2wd Tacoma and even though my health doesn't allow me to drive much whenever I did drive it I always felt uncomfortable. I went as far as positioning the side view mirrors so I could see the top of the tire(s) to make sure I didn't have any wheel wobble or of there were any problems I would see it right away and pull over.

Also, if you do decide to go with an adapter make sure its hub centric, by doing so you'll eliminate any problems with wheel vibration.
