TV no workie after Feb. 18th 2009

http://www.kirotv.com/money/15179535/detail.html

I have been hearing a lot about this as of late.

I am on Comcast Cable with it, but I do not use a set top box, I just get the main local channels, and the cable channels up to about number 99.
So I guess this means I am OK since I am on cable.

But for those who rely on rabbit ears or an antenna on top of their home, it will no longer work.

I still need to upgrade though.
A nice 42" LCD would be great for movies and plugging the laptop into fire off a few games over the bigger screen.

I bet member Reggie is up to date on all of this stuff.

I'll be buying my time upto and possibly a little after that date before I plunge into the realm of HDTV. If you do go with a new tv, make sure you get one with a built-in tuner. I'm already pricing and researching my options so when the time comes I don't need to cram to learn. Looking at 47".

The wording "millions of televisions nationwide will stop working" seems a bit extreme since they still will work but won't receive a signal but with those black boxes being offered cheap things will go on for the technology challenged hillbillies in this country. hehe

HDTVs are steadily coming down in price so they are getting much more affordable and now we won't mind helping our friends move their 42"ers in. Cheap 32"s are under $500 but buyer beware and do research.

Almost every HDTV has a built in tuner so that's not really an issue anymore and if you have cable/Sat you'll probably never use it.

This is a big step since we need to step up progress in this country as we have fallen behind a bit in the technological race IMO.

I did a lot of research before I decided on another LG but I've been very happy with the 37" LG in the living room so I went with a 32" for the bedroom and both perform great and are reasonably priced. I also read good reviews (professional and customers) about the Toshiba Regza series,JVC and the Panasonic LCDs and also Samsung which I spend over an hour and a half looking deciding in the store since all were priced in the $700-850 range.

If you want cheaper the Olevia and Vizio have gotten decent praises as of late and I just saw an Olevia 42" for $900 somewhere. Definetly look for at least 2 HDMI inputs and when it comes time for HDMI cables save mega $$$$ and buy on-line since you can get cables for under $10 vs $20 to over $100 for the same thing.
