a good year for 22r pickup?????

hi there........i am lookin' for a toyota 2wd truck to drop a nice lcengineering 22r into....i aM lookin at 85-95 pickups.....from what i understand the 91-95's that don't have a 22r will except a 22r if a bell housing is replaced for the tranny, that's what lcengineering told me anyway.....
so my question is,,,,,what year of toyota pickup will be best for a restore????
i like the 95's,but i like the 85 1 ton too....... help me decide......
thanks..

The big question is, do you have to smog the vehicle? If not, you can drop it into ANY 79-95 2wd truck and it'll bolt right in. The 22r was used in 81-92 2wd trucks.

It depends on the smog laws there, but in Cali you would automatically fail the visual inspection if there's a 22r in place of what should be a 22re. If they have a 25 year law that allows 25 year old and older vehicles exempt from smogging, then get an early 80's truck and have some fun.
