I've been itching to switch to a 4WD. My delima is, do I sell my 4Runner, that is perfect minus the 4WD, and try to find another great deal in the 4WD version. Or slap an IFS on it.

I've been thinking if cost is relatively low to put an IFS on it. My problem is I can't find any good reading about this because every switches to SAS, or they already have the IFS to begin with.

If some one could point me to some write ups or something, I'd appreciate it.

I thought I could piece an IFS setup together pretty cheap, but I don't know what peices to pick up. Shoot I might even be lucky and find an entire setup at a junk yard or something.

Last but not least, any idea on $$$? It has to be cost effective, or I'll just sell mine and buy another.

I live right down the street from 3 count them 3 land cruisers. A 40 and two 80s, and they're all fixed up nice. The 80's look alot like the 80 Darren posted being for sale.

Buy a new one. Much easier and probably cheaper than or just as much as putting one together.

 

When guys SAS they typically use a plasma torch to cut all the IFS junk out. By no means do they carefully unbolt everything piece by piece. So, if you are looking to grab a complete IFS from somone who is SASing, you will have to do a bunch of cutting and/or welding to get in, probably more work than if you tried to put a straight axle under a 2WD.

Sell your 2WD and buy a used driveable 4x4.

 

That's what I kind of figured....ARGH!!!! And I think resale has dropped significantly since the 03's came out right? I bought my 95 for 8500 back last Nov.
