opinions on this 3.4

(item is no longer available for viewing)

they say 27,000 miles and to ignore the last 4 or so pictures, they were put there by mistake, and it came out of a rolled truck. they also completely ignored my inquiry about a money plus shipping back garantee that it is in fact in good working condition.

so, how many miles? anyone wanna guess. thats damn cheap.....if you could get a warranty it might be worth it, but what about the miles?

I would avoid it. Most people dont think to turn off the engine proceeding the first few moments after a roll. And remember, an upsidedown engine is an oil-starved engine. It could have a huge amount of unseen wear.

If I had 2500 plus shipping right now, that puppy would be in my garage! Only thing is, they don't specify if the gearbox and the tcase come with.

New block from toyota is $2500. Why would you pay 2500 for a used one?

BTW, I got my 3.4l w/ 55k for 1500 off car-parts.com . They can be had for under 1200, but probably not in your neighborhood.

uh, because it's complete not just the block and it has a 5 speed tranny, gearbox, and tcase attached to it. add all that up and it's alot more than 2500. it would be a complete drop in replace for my '98 that's got over 100k on it.

I know it's from a '99, means it would fit in mine. I could 'just buy it' but then I think, with 2500 I could regear front and rear and add arb air lockers front and rear, and do the manual hub conversion. just can't justify that trade off. not with only 100k on my engine.

I wonder if they would just sell the engine for really cheap, then I could just drop it in since mine already is a 5 shpeed.

dont even want to humor me on the payment plan for your 4runner poboy?

my buddy (who is also a master toyota mechanic with his own shop) just sold a 5spd and transfer from a 99 4runner for $600, plus i dont think theyll get $2500, so after its over they might take some offers.......big money.

Haha...I missed that! Actually, I'll entertain a payment plan option...but it wont be 0% interest. Im also pretty good at repo-ing cars...so make sure you pay me on time (I'll have a grace period of course).

Just took out my cargo box BTW. Got another 1.5+ inches in the rear. Just gotta crank up the Downey's in front to match it...Im seeing 305's in its future.

I still think its an auto. Just checked under my wifes 98 and thats the trans in hers. There is no "stick" on the transmission pictured. The rear one is the transfer case 4X4 shifter location. My 5 speed Tacoma had ribs all over the transmission and no black pan on the bottom. No ribs, no shifter and black pan =automatic.

You guys have more faith than I do. I just don't know how you can consider even buying a mechanical device online without seeing it or touching it. Buyer beware! Im not saying that I wouldn't buy a used one, I would, especially with the pay I get these days. Anyhow if someone gets it, good luck with it.

I definately would have a buddy go check it out before I decided on it, I don't think any of us here are dumb enough just to enter our c-card number blindly on any used mech device.
