Decided on Kumho AT, Info

I've been researching tires to go on my Taco TRD for a while now and finally decided on the Kumho Road Venture AT KL78. I haven't heard anything bad about these tires and the price can't be beat ($512.00 mounted and balanced).

It had come down to the Toyo Open Country A/T versus this Kumho and I finally decided on the Kumho after getting a price quote and reading the following review.

http://www.4wdmonthly.com.au/tips_tyres.php

That review has a lot of the tires that are commonly discussed here and on other forums so I thought I'd post it for y'all to read. It's long but very in-depth and very informative.

Post up a review after you get to test them out.

Good review. I'm replacing my 265/75 Nittos with 285 Nittos or Kumho's. I can't decide.

Can you post pics too? I want to see which sidewall you got.

I probably would have gone with the Terra Grappler's but they don't come in passenger car sizes, just light truck and I don't need something that heavy duty. I also don't want to run 50psi in them because my truck rides stiff enough as it is with the TRD suspension. How many miles did you get on yours?

KL78's were my favorite tire I've had. They had virtually NO road noise, were pretty good in ice/snowy conditions, had awesome road manners. Plus, mounted white letter out they look pretty good

thanks for the link to the Aussie website. Always good to hear some other opinions. that is an exhaustive tire test they set up.

Hope you like the new Kumho's.

We use the Kumho AT's on our work trucks and they work great. Rain, snow, dry, we get good traction and mileage out of them. For an inexpensive tire, they work great.

Yeah, that Aussie review is exhaustive. I am glad they did it.

I got them installed yesterday afternoon. So far, so good. I haven't been off-road yet but putzing around town and down the innerstate to work this morning they seem to work well. They track much better than the worn out Michelins they replaced but they are a good bit louder. Of course, they are a true all terrain where the LTX M/S is a street tire with an agressive shoulder. The rubber seems much softer than with the Michelins too so they ride much smoother and seem to soak up the bumps better. I might get buy without replacing my shocks for a few more months now!

I am going to the mountains next month and will be off-road a good bit on that trip so I'll post a review then.

Somewhere between 30k-40k. We're not so good at getting them rotated.

I'll try to but it is dark by the time I get home nowadays and I am going out of town this weekend. I'll see what I can do though.

Mine look like the first link.

I know Kumho makes what they call a KL41 which from what I hear is the same as the KL78 (what I got) but I never saw anything definite on that. I wonder if that second one might be the KL41? Or is it something entirely different?

I've seen the second one on rim sizes 18 and higher. Didn't know if they made that one in 16's.

But if you could still post some pics, that would be awesome.

If you can wait until Monday, I'll snap a pic of the new ones that are waiting to go on one of our trucks. They are 265/75/16 KL78's.

I bought Kumhos for my 88 4Runner last year before winter. I got to play some in the river beds and the mountains before winter and I'll tell you they will NOT stop digging!!! They are great in everything (slippery on ice, but what isn't). If they were just winter tires, I would have them studded, but they are year around and I swear by them.

BTW, I'm thinking about selling my 88 and upgrade to a 99. Anyone around Kenai Alaska interested????
