Toyota Tacomas did not come out until late 1995. All the Toyota trucks previously were HILUX trucks(even though they stopped using this name in 1975) The most important difference between the older HILUX trucks (all made in Japan) and the Tacoma trucks (made in California) is that the frames on the older trucks are fully boxed (stronger) and the Tacomas, all other trucks built in California are only "C" section frames (weaker).

Does anyone know if the 5 speed used with the V6 toyota uses a bigger bell housing than the 5 speed bolted to the 4 cylinder and if so is it the same transmission bolt pattern. I need a bell housing to bolt to the 5 speed I have that is a larger diameter. I am mating this tranny to an isuzu 1.8L diesel and the smaller bell housing has interference problems with the bolt holes on the engine meaning an adapter plate is impossible to make. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
