They were called Custom Cabs or something like that. The retrofit was done by Winnebago and others.

lol that looks like crap. A bed cap doesn't belong in the middle of a truck.

Where's that guy on here that owns like three of them. He has a lifted one, a daily one, and a project one. They're all a gen newer than the one above.

My dad owned one, and you could get these before Toyota offered the 4 door Hiluxes to the US. It was actually pretty cool, had a full backseat, and a regular sized truck bed. He bought it brand new in 1986 and had it until about 1998. I still see it around town periodically. The lifted 4wd versions look pretty cool, IMHO.

from your description I was picturing the "Trekker" which spawned the 4Runner, it had a bench back seat and a truck bed, but only a 2 door like the pickups....but I have been wrong before....

Naw, I'm pretty sure he saw the Custom Cab. That description sounds identical to my dad's old truck.

if you look at the 2nd picture on the attachment there, its like the back has a sort of almost sunroof thing. looks neat, just wish the top was flush

It did. The reason that it's not flush was to allow for more headroom in the back seat area.

As I recall, it made it a little nicer for my sister and I on long road trips. Of course, I only allowed her on approximately 1/3 of the seat... (I was kind of a jerky big brother... )
