what i have is a 95 4runner 3.0 2wd. i dont see any need for lifting a 2wd so i want to lower. After searching i found no info. i know, i know, "YOTATECH THE OFF-ROAD ADVENTURE BEGINS HERE." But i love to have things that no other has. A lowered 4runner is about as rare as a mighty max. any info would be greatly appreciated.

 

well, lifting a 2wd does make sense. prerunner. lock the back, and you're all set. can go places other 2wd cant. if you dont want to do that, what do you need to know about lowering?

So, are you lowering simply because you are into that thing, or because you dont wanna lift a 2wd? I dont wanna stray from your original question, but I think a pre-runner style 4runner would be cool, and would definitely be different. If it were MY truck, the prerunner idea would be a good one. I'd get a good set of shocks (bilstein, KYB, etc) level the rear cause I'm sure it sags, and get some good 31x10.50 all terrains. Get an E-locker for the rear, maybe even a light bar, and call it good. Believe me, thatd be a setup that would be hard find two of.

 

It was meant in good humour, my appologies. Ok then, you can have my rear springs, they've been lowered through a special process. The details of this process are a closely guarded secret, but suffice it to say it took 10 years under my 4Runner.

ONly way to lower it, is to get a frame from 85-95 2wd shortcab shortbed pickup and put the body on that. You have the 4wd suspension, just no t-case or drive components, and you cant really lower it anymore than it is.

Either that, or get a shop to custom install like a mustang II front end, and re-do the back.... but youre thinking like $5000+ for that kinda work..

 

Same suspension as the 4WD version. Cheap fix is to turn down the torsion bars and change the rear leafs. I suspect you can get 2" to 6" drop depending on trial and error. Is that enough?

 

actually, i do like that prerunner idea. the only reason is my bud has a taco that he's in the middle of building. he has plans to bag. I did find a kit by eibach, it's only like 1.5" of drop, but it's also only $155+. i am just trying to get some ideas. well if i do decide to prerunner it, (great idea ozziesironmanoffroad) those fiberglass fenders by toyota fiberglass. my mind is all over the place at the moment.

i thought there where coils in the back on the 2nd and 3 gens
just do get a lc coil and cut it in half for the rear and relax your torsion bars

ya but jimmy's have leafs in the back. if you cut the coils off i think you'll mess up the spring rate.....no? what you can do is use the stock ones, and heat them up and they'll sag. but if you do it too much, then you need new coils. people did that on old muscle cars back in the day. up front is the issue though cause there's no good way to lower it any more than what you can do with the t-bars and still retain preload. unless you switch to coilovers or bags there's just no good way to go really low.

 

not a problem my friend. . since its 2wd, i didnt flip out about droppin it, i generally dont like low riders, but ive seen some SICK ones, such as shoes' truck, that things awesome. what irritates me is when people drop 4x4s. the main thing though, is that low riders only look good if you do it just right. prerunning that 4runner would look AWESOME. need any tips on doin it cali style, we're right here. and hell, u ever come out to vegas, we'll go test it out in the desert. good luck! sorry for the rambling, i guess the wine loosened my tongue L

 

Dude, the drop wont work on your truck, it might be 2wd, but it has 4wd suspension.
The drop is made for 2wd pickups, that have 2wd suspension. There are lots of drop kits for those trucks.
