my (newer) truck is rolling again, and the p.o. allowed the battery to break, and let the fan blow acid all over the engine bay

so

after all is said and cleaned, i still will need a new air intake boot. (original has been siliconed)
all availible (upwards 100 bucks +. ) will need to be shipped in (yes, that far away)
are there any places to get a cheap or generic one (can i fabricate one ?)

or, should i just wrap it in a roll of duct tape

works great. My original was so old it was falling apart. Was leaking so I made that out of ABS plastic pipe.

 

I got mine from Home Depot... so it's pretty high end.



It's just the gray conduit for electrical service, 45 degree sweep. I wrapped it with header tape since I had some around... but ran it bare for 6 months without issue. The rubber ends are adapters from the plumbing aisle.

 

k if you go to the dealer you can get one of those air intake tubes for like 20bucks or under.
i work at a parts store and i have gotten one for a guy here.
and it was like 20 sumthin or under 20 i forget, but it was suprisingly cheap lol
but nice set ups there guys, they look pretty good

Obviously it seems to work, but could there be any potentially harmful affects of using these, uh, creative customizations?

Not that Im knocking your work or anything (surprised i never thought of it first actually), but can anybody see any problems with this? ABS melting, cloth catching fire?

If not, its a Home Depot run for me!!

 

I have silicone connectors ment for turbo piping. And the ABS really dosnt get very hot.
It seals better then my stock one too.

There's no problems with this mod. It's simple and easy. Nothing melts and nothing burns. That cloth is header wrap (which you don't actually need unless you want).....and headers get very, very hot. And consider...the stock tube is not made with a material very different from PVC or ABS. Excluding the rubber parts, of course. Still...it won't melt.

 

Here's mine...works great! I made it from fuel hose used on big rig fuel haulers. No nipple adapters to mess with, just hose clamp the ends. Had to cut it with a chop-saw because of the wire reinforcement.

 

Well... if it's the wire attached to the brass bell looking thing, that was my attempt at installing a fuel pressure sensor. It worked okay but then my gauge fried so I gave up. I was trying to troubleshoot a problem I was having and thought perhaps it was a fuel issue.

If it's the wire just out of frame to the right, that's from my ARB compressor.

As others have mentioned, the "cloth" is header warp... which is basically impervious to heating up and lighting on fire. I took a look at how thin the plastic was on the OEM piece and then looked at the 1/8 or so thick Home Depot part and figured I'd be fine. Has run this way through two Phx, AZ summers without issue.

Just make sure you attach any necessary fittings to your intake with no nuts or fittings on the inside that can rattle loose and suck into your engine.

For me, the brass nipples just threaded into the PVC. That stuff is very thick.

When I first put it on, I noticed a growl of sorts. I liked it a lot, but don't really notice the extra purr at this point.

Where did you get the fule hoze that you used??? How much?
And how did you attach the Valve cover vent hoze as well as the other hoze??

 

I bought the hose at a hyrdaulic shop & paid way more than I should have for 18". I think $15. The connectors I got from True Value hardware shop. Just standard hose fittings that I drilled a hole in the hose & JB WElded them in. They're not going anywhere. There used to be a guy that sold a kit for $50 that he made out of exhaust pipe. personaly I like your set up the best. Do you think that a 3" 45* bend redius can be bought from a regular parts store like napa?

They should be available from any hardware store in your area. Lowes,Ace,TrueValue,HomeDepot.....places like that.

Fredtheterd has the best looking one in my opinion. easiest to construct and the best looking i think.

I will be stopping my my parts store tomorrow to get the pieces together, I will let you know how it turns out

Here's another option, exhaust pipe. Cost about 12 bucks bent, at the muffler shop.

Those brass nipples can be bought at any hardware store. I got mine from home depot for my ISR mod.
