The inside of the radiator on my new 4Runner looks pretty gunked up so I'm going to replace it. I have an auto trans that hooks up to the radiator. Wouldn't it be beneficial to give it it's own cooler? Seems like it would be better for the radiator to dedicate more time to the engine. And I would think that it would have a harder time keeping the trans as cool as a standalone without the hot/warm coolant running through it. Let me know if I'm way off here. I read the article in the archives and it looks like a simple install and I've found these aftermarket trans coolers for less than $40. Opinions?

Since you're in a high elevation ski resort you might be effected more than most by over-cooling or pressure drop through the cooler. I'd definatly get a cooler with a bypass up there in ski country.

 

Yeah I was reading about that, this is all so new to me, I'm used to a 5 speed where as long as it's leaking it's still got fluid and they just don't break and aren't finnicky either. This auto trans makes me really nervous.

 

You can get those Long Tru-Cool LPD Transmission Coolers cheaper on ebay than IPT.

Is the snow falling yet up there? You should be more worried about your heater right now
