what would be the best 4" speakers for stock 3rd gen. head.

ok, i have a 2nd gen 4Runer, the stock double din head unit just stopped working. a fellow forum member give me a 3rd gen stock head and i'm woundering what would be the best speakers to match it up? having my windows smacked twice before, i'm through with aftermarket stereos. not all the "GOOD" speakers work well with stock head unit, first hand info is greatly appriciated.i need to replace the 2 in-dash 4" speakers, at least for now.

thanks.

Imho, with stock deck best I tried was Pioneer 4" , with aftermarket deck Infinity 4" are far superior to anything else.
Hope this helps!

The 4" Infinity's are a popular choice.
BUT is your double din 3rd gen HU powered? Mine had a separate factory "amp" hidden behind the console...

I have Infinity Reference speakers in my front and rear doors and I am very satisfied. I am running them off a sony HU, and no amp. Your stock HU should have enough RMS to push the 4" Infinity. You cant go wrong with any Infinity product, very good speakers.

I like the Alpine 4" because they go down to 50Hz, most 4" only go to around 80Hz.

first, thanks for your input, i ordered a pair of Infinity Reference 4" from Crutchfield, they had it on sale for $39, plus i got the free vehicle spec. installation guide, very detailed illustrations, definetely a HUGE help, i couldn't do it without it.

bad news is the 3rd gen head unit needed different wiring harnesses, the stock harness wont' work. i had to plug it all back after all the work.

good news is these speakers worked 100 times better. the only hassle was one the driver side speaker housing, it needed some minor trimming but no biggy, all i used were a box cuter and a drill. the passenger side just bolt-on.

now i need to make a decision to go get an aftermarket deck or not. been having my window broken twice before, i'm really sick and tired of aftermarket deck. is there a place i can get the conversion harness kit?

yeah, twice. first time was my Dodge Ram, took the flip-over JVC cd deck. second was on my current 4Runner, took the Nav. so i don't really want any fancy schmancy stuff any more.

just wanna kick myself for not taking pictures of the back of stock cd, now i'm having a really good time explainning what i need to get.

here are the picture of the 3rd gen head unit, front and back

the stock head unit in my vehicle now has to plugs, in the center of the back panel, next to each other. radio on top. CD player at the buttom, a round black harness plugs into the top.

found one picture very close to the old head unit

I would just invest in a viper alarm. You can get one that pages you and has all the fancy stuff including window sensors for like 300-400 installed. btw, i got alpine 4 inch speakers and there awsome.
