I really new to this off road stuff. I have a 1995 stock 4x4 4runner. I have 31" tires on here all AT's. I want to no how she will do off road and what is her limit, and how will she FLEX? I'm sorry for the crazy question, but you guys no the answers. Thanks for the help.

 

off roading has a great learning curve. I have done it for years and it seems like i learn something new each time i am out. If you are careful it will do what you feel is comfortable. As you upgrade your truck more it will become more and more capable. As you wheel more you will feel more comfortable..... I guess what i am saying is that if you are new to wheeling then it will do all you need it to do now as you do it more you will learn the boundaries. A capable rig is one thing... a capable driver is another. Hope that sounds right.

Your best bet is to find some people who know how to wheel and just go out with them on a stock friendly trail. Try a few things and see what annoys you the most and upgrade it. That's what I did and when I came back I got the scratch together for skids, a locker and cut the ends off my rear bumper... Did much better the next time. Every time I go out I get an idea of something I could improve to make it better.. You just have to restrain yourself from just maxing out your credit card on mods as soon as you get back .

To answer your question really, assuming you're a decent driver, then a stock 2nd gen on 31s is actually pretty capable. Just watch your undercarriage until you get skids... That's the worst thing about wheeling a stock height rig. But, check out my site if you want to see pics of what is capable at stock height with skids and a rear locker. It's pretty impressive.

a shovel a winch and a tow strap are your best friends. so is a CB radio

ruts made with tires bigger than your tires will make you stuck.

open diffs suck.

the reason toyota trucks of any year sell for more than the same year of competitor truck is cause toyotas are much better. design, construction, performance.

 

I have done some crazy stuff in my stock 93 on 31" radials. I just put some BFG a/t's on it and am curious to know what it will do now.

 

your care for body damage has a lot to do with it....

 

a stock runner can do alot, and i mean ALOT. if you want to wheel you DO NOT NEED a locker. i have been wheeling with my dad in his almost stock 1st gen runner sense i was a baby (yes the truck is older than i am) we have gone damn near everywhere. i believe that its mostly driver skill and not so much the truck its self. GO SLOW. the worst thing you can do is try to fly through everything. look for the best line on the trail and take that. dont always go for the cool, hard lines. if the line right next to that gets you through easier take that one

its all about patience and skill. as long as you have patience you will eventually gain skill

 

well ill tell first hand ...........extremly jumping and muddin and crawling .the yota is no joke ......allthough ive had it on a frame machine due to a little to high jumping rebuilt the motor . druga z71 down the road ( with a hitch tug) backwards and got stuck several times it will go most places stock vehicles cant but it doesnt sound l;ike youre gonna do anything like that
