Rear Axle bearings...Slip or Interference Fit in Case
Anybody know for sure if the OD of the rear axle bearings are slip fit or interference fit in the bearing case on the 2nd Gen 4Runner ('93 4x4 Auto)? (I know the ID is interference fit on the axle).
Reason I ask is because when I took the old ones off to replace them (KOYO on the driver's side and FAG brand aftermarket on the passenger side), the KOYO seemed tight, and required some very light pressing to get it out. The FAG one I popped out with hand pressure alone. I re-installed the KOYO one, just to see how tight it went in, and I could press it back in by hand with little hammer taps around the perimeter.
I bought 2 new SKF bearings, and they install the same as the KOYO, with little hammer taps. When the new bearing are fully installed, and I spin the ID of the bearing with my fingers, occasionnally, the OD will slip and rotate slightly in the case before catching again. I know this won't be a problem when the weight of the truck is on the bearing (i.e. with the weight of the truck, the bearing will not spin in the case), but I'm just wondering if everybody's are like that or if my bearing cases have slight wear to them (there is no evident wear visible.)
Thanks,
G

are you asking how the bearing fits into the backing plate machined "hub thingie"?
mine were tight, requied a light tapping to get in/out.
if you can spin yours id try some sleave compund
