22re Knock sensor vs 3.0 knock sensor

I installed FI from an 1990 pickup on my 87 22r. It runs great except it throws a code 52 when I rev up past 2500 rpm with the 22re sensor. I even tried a different 22re knock sensor. I then installed a knock sensor off of 3.0 engine and the problem went away. The sensors look different in shape but the connectors are the same. Is running this 3.0 knock sensor going to be a problem? Truck run great. If it is an issue then I will run coax cable from old knock sensor to computer.

eek I've been told that they were all the same but I dont know for sure.

Some people have spoken of grounding the sheild on the knock sensor wire to help alleviate the code 52 and get a cleaner signal going to the ECU.

Knock sensor engine code 52

I bought my first gen V6 about 4 months ago. I had the timing belt done about two weeks when the check engine light came on. The code is coming up 52, a knock sensor open circuit code.

I did a tune up and found the spark plugs were white. They were not fouled much other than the white appearance. Generally I understand this to mean the fuel/air ratio is too lean.

So I switch my mass airflow sensor with one off a '95 runner and switched out the fuel filter (thinking the easiest solution is usually the best). Unfortunately the knock sensor code is still coming on above 3,000 RPMs and my engine performance doesn't feel right.

I'm having to push the accelerator too hard to climb normal inclines and when I do floor it there's a delay before the engine revs. And then it revs way too high for the little power I'm getting. I'm afraid I'm going to burn a hole in a piston or worse.

Is this typical V6 ("VSlow") behavior or is there possibly something that goes wrong on the V6 after 250,000 miles (rebuilt around 170K). I'm thinking it might be the fuel pump but everyone's saying these pumps last forever. There was good pressure when I switched the fuel filter. I know because I didn't have it on right the first time.

Any ideas? Please forgive writing a novel.

yep..it happens on the 3.0's often. More than likely its just the wire between the sensor and the harness but since you are all the way in there just replace the sensor as well. (spendy lil bastards)

I have used 3.0 and 22re sensors if you are interested.

Just let me know
