Vonage/Linksys WRT54g

Ok..here's the deal.
I just moved into a brand new place and the landlord currently provides me internet via his 802.11b 2Wire Homeportal on AT&T DSL. I want a home phone, but I don't want a landline.

I currently own a Vonage WRT54g Wireless Router/Phone Adapter. What I'd like to do is somehow have the Vonage router connect to the wireless network so that I may once again use my Vonage service. I can't physically plug the Vonage router into the 2Wire Router - it's behind a locked door and not near any of my phone wiring.

Any of this make sense? Can it be done?

First off you would need to get your router to connect to the wireless signal. You cant connect using the wireless in your router because its on the LAN (Local Area Network) side of your router and not on the WAN (Wide Area Network) side. so you would have to have a computer using a wireless card grab the signal get an ip. then share that connection to a ethernet port to feed the WAN side of your router. Now that is putting your connections threw 2 NATs (Network Address Translation) before it gets to your vonage router. It would almost be like putting it behind two firewalls. I dont know if the vonage will be able to find its way out and to the switch it should be connecting to.

It maybe worth a try tho. If you do get it to work. I would like to know. I work a ton with VoIP so i am interested.

Vonage also has a usb thumbdrive looking connection that you can get now. To where you wouldnt need to use that router right now. But, still could use your account.

Not sure on the cost of it.
