I searched and couldn't find anything about how to remove the thing. I got it about halfway out and it hits a stud holding the blower or something to the firewall.

 

It's a pain in the ass, for sure. Do you see how your evaporator case is made up of an upper and lower section? Remove all the bolts and nuts from both upper and lower. Pull the evap case toward you, till it slips off the stud holding it in place. Then you'll be able to move the whole unit down far enough to slip the amplifier out.
