So my U-joint noise came back recently. I'm certain it's a u-joint cause I turned off my 4runner and pushed it backwards in neutral and I could hear it squeak and creak.

Anyways, I work two jobs and since I don't have a lot of time to work on my vehicle..
Would you guys suggest removing the driveshaft for the time being (I'm talkin just til sunday) so that the Ujoint doesn't seize while it's connected and break more things? I could drive it in 4hi safely without the rear connected right?

 

You can run it without the driveshaft if you want, however if you're gunna pull the u-joint in order to remove the shaft you might as well just replace them and fix the problem in the first place.

Ummm ... why would you go to all the trouble of removing the ujoint to pull the DS - just unbolt the flange. 4 - 14mm wrench size bolts on each end.

And yes, it's fine to remove the driveshaft and drive around in FWD. The truck drives a little funny like that though.

 

I did that for about a week with no problem.
