Sliders/bumpers/tube finders?
Okay, so there has been an FJ cruiser in our family since beginning of summer, it's my mom's rig. But she's ready to take it wheeling and says she needs some stuff before she will go. So far she has the TRD catback, TRD cold air intake, Dick Cepek mud country tires, Procomp xtreme alloys series 7089 black wheels, and every option from the factory, other than rock rails.
She went into the dealer the other day and asked how much for the rock rails and was quote something like $650. So I told her I could probably find something stronger made of DOM for cheaper, or have it custom built. Does anyone make anything like this?
I have seen a few bumpers I like for the Cruiser in magazines, but the picture is always talking about the wheel/tire package or the lift kit! It's so frustrating! So something I am looking for is a maybe a winch-ready bumper that isn't so bulky as the stocker and will give better approach angles. Also it must work with a new skid plate, like the Warn unit appears to be.
Last but not least, I keep looking at the black fender trim going "Damn, they should remove those and make them out of tube to protect the fenders and quarter panel/lights" So basically you would remove the stock plastic bits and replace them with tube. Has anyone done this, or would I have to get it custom done?
I don't have any fabrication skills, which hinders this project, but I have thought up a few good ideas. Hey Corey, is there anyone local you would trust to do this type of work?
