87 pickup

so i have noticed that my brake fluid is low. if i put more in it than the brakes stick. so if i put more in it than i have to bleed the system. so where the hell does it go? all my wheel look dry as does all the lines. is it my master cylinder? Booster??

my dads 81 pickup does it too. i don't understand what the problem is. i'm sick of messing with it. any help out there????

 

Ok, you've obviously checked the lines, are there any telltale pools of fluid under the truck?

Check all the soft rubber lines, and replace them with new ones. Check the fittings around the master cylinder, look for seeping fluid, etc.

 

The brake lines have a tendency to rot above the tank where they sit in mud and water and dirt all the time. The brake fluid leaks down around the frame and gets sprayed all over the seam at the very bottom of the cab, eating the paint and rusting things. Mine was leaking for months and I only ever saw fluid on the ground once. I only realized it was leaking when my fluid kept getting low, then I got underneath and found a wet spot on the frame rail. Keep that in mind.

 

i have NO spots under the truck. i dunno where it goes. my friend told me it could be the master cylinder or the booster. i dunno where to even begin.

 

it's gotta be leaking somewhere...

 

Check the boots on the wheel cylinders and calipers. If the piston is leaking then it will fill up the boot before it starts to leak. If it is leaking from the rear wheel cylinders then there is a chance it is running down the brake shoe and getting on the inside of the drum. It might be going in the brake booster if the master cylinder is bad.
