Anyone planning on installing the Safari snorkel when it comes out later?
If so, what are your main reasons?

Me:
Not the water, I like going through shallow stuff, but not deep water, I have a fear of hydrolocking, although it would be good insurance if I ever did get in over the stock fording depth of 27.5".

My main reasoning to add one down the road is because of where I like to off road at.

Up at Greenwater it can get very dusty during the spring through fall there if the ground is dry.
So bad, you can barely see the rig in front of you, even if you are only a rigs length behind them when following each other.



All that dust is getting sucked somewhere, and with a snorkels intake mounted up higher, that should help keep the air filter cleaner.

I would try to reuse the snorkel from my 4Runner, but the color of it does not match upto the FJ Cruiser.

and while ive been in some dusty situations, never as bad as that pic. i use mine mostly for deep water, i also have a fear of hydrolocking. one time of having to pull your plugs and watching your motor spit water out will give anyone that fear!

 

I don't plan on running deep water on purpose, but a snorkel is good insurance 'just in case' the water gets a bit deep. Especially in an emergency situation where you might have to cross water of dubious depth. A pre-cleaner in my opinion should be used on those snorkels rather than the 'scoop' shown. I do plan on getting one asap when they finally get them out.

Plug wires should be stuffed with a dialectric grease and reinstalled to help against stalling in deeper water. Anyone have any other suggestions?

 

Doubt I'll get one for water...but some of the trails here are DUSTY....and the snorkel would be great for that! The other side of the coin in regaurds for the original purpose for creating them in the land down under!!

 

Well I checked back with ARB on the Snorkels.... Still 'being designed' according to ARB. As well, according to ARB- Snorkels are the most sought after aftermarket accessory that customers want.

You think they'd start crackin the whip on the designers and get out the door considering so many people want them. ARB has been doing Safari Snorkels so long, I cannot see it being that major of a task for them to take this long.

 

It probably doesnt take long.

But since Im familiar with multi project management.... its a question of whats in the queue AHEAD of this project....

 

I contacted Safari yesterday morning while at work, and there was a reply for me when I got home.

As you may know, ARB does not make them, they only distribute them for Safari in the USA.

Safari told me ARB will be seeing these very soon.
Hopefully before July.

 

I called ARB last week they said definately being developed, end of summer. SAWEEET!

What is your honest opinion of this?
Some do not like it since the tube does not follow the A pillar more closely, but that could be due to the door not opening properly if it did.

 

looks good on there i think, still waiting for mine to get here from Canada where i have it sitting.

 

The nice thing about the design too is that Safari took into consideration that many of us will be adding a 2nd battery under the hood.

In fact that is one of my next mods, coming before to long.

 

thats a nice mod, a second battery, when i can finally save enough and i can buy the 3.0 turbo D toyota engine, that will help me out lot when i have to add more accesories

 

Yes, my incab aux. fusebox is wired to the stock battery with about 10' or so if wire, I will route it to the new battery which is just outside the hole in the firewall for the wire now.

Then my winch solenoid will go under the hood, and will rewire it to the new battery too.

 

Corey .. any idea where you'll mount the solenoid box after your dual battery install? Right now I have the BTF battery box and my dual battery installed. I also have an AFE CAI ... trying to figure out how to get my solenoid under the hood also.

 

how big of a hole do you have to cut? it looks alright, i mean, not MY cup of tea, but on the FJ it doesn't look half bad...

don't forget to pick up a cone filter to stuff on there for s and giggles (noticed the 'scoop' is removable)

 

Silver, I think it will mount right where you have your cold intake.
Since the snorkel uses the stock hose, there is no additional stuff that you will see in the engine bay from the snorkel, so I think it will work there.

I have also seen pictures of the solenoid on the drivers side inner fender.
Just saw it yesterday, but I forget who did it.

Gunslinger, it takes a 4" hole I think.
I would like to put a sticker (removable) that says
Stay clear of missile launcher

holy cow. so you could drive in water up to the nose of the snorkel? wouldnt water seep in through the door jams? how do you keep water out?

 

your doors actually have a pretty good seal. and its not like you are in the water long enough to let enough water in to flood the interior seriously. if you are, you have bigger problems. besides, most trucks that actually use the snorkel, dont have much in the way of interiors anyway...

more of a worry is the entire electrical system must be sealed up.
