Question How do the new 4Runners hold up

I have to be quiet so the 86 doesn't hear. I found some reviews here and there but it all sounds opinionated. What exactly is limited-slip center differential with locking feature?

the limited slip center diff is for all-wheel-drive mode where you can drive around on the street. Good for medium-low traction on-road driving (wet, snowy, icy). When you lock the differential, it acts like a standard 4wd system (like your '86), in that it's for off-road dirt driving only (dirt, sand, mud).
