mr2 alternator swap in 3rd gen?

Hey all,

My 1997 3.4L 4Runner is at 125k miles and is giving me intermittent starting problems. Got a new battey in it, and am pretty sure it needs a new alternator since it is still the original.

Was thinking of putting a 1991 MR2 alternator on it for more juice (stereo, taurus fan, driving lights etc.) as has been mentioned here and there on the forum.

Anyone here done it for a 3rd gen? Was it pretty straight forward? Can you use same belt, or do you have to get a different one? Did you need a conversion wiring harness to get it to mate up?

Thanks for any help and advice.

Chris
