3rd member switching

ok so this might be a stupid question but can you take a rear third member and put it in the front axle?. ive got an 88 4runner and an 85 solid axle. Can you interechange anything like that? thanks

If it is a solid axle you can swap them

see thats what i dont know. has anyone goptten under your trucks and seen whcih was the d-shaft turns? i dont know i have gotten mixed opinions. i dont know what to say. or maybee im just not seeing it mech.

dont think it will work pretty sure the rear diff gears are cut different than the front

Front and rear are the same diff. Think about which way the driveline turns. If the rear is turning clockwise, the front is turning counter clockwise. Thats in line with them being 180 degrees apart.

I suppose thats sorta hard to understand....but....front and rear are same.
