spare removal
so my spare is stuck where it is, its kinda rusty back there and i cant lower it down cuz the mechanism is broken, tried to get bolt cutters in to cut the chain but there just isnt enuff room under there. i was thinking about grinding thru the bottom piece but i dont wanna do any damage to the wheel itself. penetrating lube, etc, nothing works, and i cant spin the screw to lower it cuz its all broken off anyway. thanks previous owner...so any ideas?
oh its a 91 pickup

cut the chain link with a sawzall. The pulley is shot. I had same problem. Keep tire in bed of truck. I've heard of those things rusting and breaking off while you're driving. So you don't want a lawsuit on your hands.

yea i was more worried about it hitting when i was offroading and breaking off, trust me it wont break while im driving, i have hung off the thing from under the truck, looks like its time to dust off the red box

Air down the tire, then put a 2x4 across it and use the jack to compress the tire. Will give you just enough slack to work on the chain.
Note to everyone - be sure to use your tire hoist once a month to keep it from seizing up!
