'91 4Runner V6 3.0 SR-5 A340H Automatic tranny, 200,000 miles

Recently, upon acceleration (mild or hard... does not matter), I'm hearing a "rattling" sound that seems to come from right under the shifter. This sound occurrs in 1st and 2nd gear. It's had a slight rattle for years but recently became louder and longer in duration. Still runs great and shifts perfectly. Any ideas? Valve body rattle? Fluid has been changed (drain and refill) on a regular basis. No abuse.

Found it! Fixed it! Was a linkage bracket that would viberate. Has a rubber boot... packed it with grease, no more rattle!

Hey , mine makes a similar sound under the shifter too , I will check the linkage

 

i just read this thread. are you talking about the linkage that go from the tranny to the shifter? yes i too have this rattling sound. Only mine will only rattle while in gear at 2100 rpm.

 

That's the one! Mine is still holding well with the grease packing. Every once in a while it has a slight rattle but nothing like it used to be!

 

do you think you could post pics of the part you packed with grease? I have the same problem. Thanks.
