I just got my 01 Tacoma Double cab 4wd v6 and it has the Toyota security however I never got the keyless remotes. I was told they broke a long time ago and the system was disengaged. I went to one dealer and they told me they do not sell the remotes. Could someone please tell me if I can buy one from somewhere and what is the procedure for programming the remote and reengaging the keyless entry? If it it the same price as adding a remote with autostart (which i have been quoted at 300) any suggestion on alarms for the Toyota?
Aside from this the truck has all the regular maintenance done to it. I am looking for a cap for the back for security so if anyone is selling one close to nj let me know.

hmm try another dealer. I went to my Toyota dealer to get an extra remote but they are like 95 bucks plus something like 55 to program it. As far as aftermarket alarms, the previous owner of my Tacoma had a KARR alarm installed. Its a great system and even has a starter disengage.

www.ebay.com has bunch of it. Most remote toyota uses will work.

I tried ebay but I didn't find any for that year. Do you think any will work? The ebay items warn that those remotes are for the dealer installed alarm systems, NOT the keyless entry... I have keyless entry installed on my truck not the security system (don't know if you know what I mean). Also I don't know what the programming procedure is. Do you know or have a link? thanks for your help

 

maybe someone with an 01 taco can chime in with the FCC id on the back of the remote. And most eBay sellers will include the instructions. Good luck
