How do I tell if my wheels are clearcoated?

This is sort of a spin off my wheel spots thread. Here's the info off of a site I found

Atlas 15x8 5/4.5
American Racing Atlas 1-piece full polished alloy.

I looked on ARs site but couldn't find anything there. I don't think they are clearcoated but want to make sure before I go after em with the Mothers.

Joey, the best way to tell is to test a small section of the wheel with the Mothers.
If your rag turns black, they are uncoated like my Centerlines.

Coated wheels have a film over them and the rag will not turn black.
The black is the oxidation of the aluminum.

I prefer non coated wheels, as they will shine up more than a coated wheel, but they are more work.
I have to do mine twice a year, and it really should be done 3 times a year.

Look very closely where the lugs meet the wheel. My clearcoated wheels have a little flaking of the clearcoat when the lugs rotate on them as I tighten the wheels on. Also - look where you have wheel weights or have had them in the past - they often gouge the clearcoat when the beat them on with the rubber mallet.

Thanks guys. Corey what Mothers product do you use? I noticed today when I wasn't blitzed that there are lot's of different products for wheels and aluminum. Sure would be nice if I could go down to the local parts store and just buy some.....soon I guess I'll be able to. I ordered the stuff that was in the picture in the other post.

Joey, I don't use Mother's, I use Eagle One Billet.
See my detail site on wheel care to see what I use, and there might be a link to it, I'm not sure.
It's hard to keep track of all of my pages.

The stuff kicks butt, and make my sodapop can wheels shine like chrome.

It also take off all the oxidation.
