really need a wiring diagram for all the wires that come out of a toyota for audio for a 1991 4runner

look up posts made by me in the audio section ive made 2 or 3 post with comprehensive lists.

Toyota's are pretty darn universal and relatively uniform when compared to other manufacturers. What's giving you issues right now?

 

well most theres a little wire harness already attached to the stock deck most of them have a pattern where its two on the top on both sides like the one pictured on installdr.com but mine has 3 on the top on both sides im using butt splices to connect wires to a cd deck but the colors didnt match to what installdr.com said i had weird wires that wernt on the list

 

you can always buy the adapter that clips to the stock toyota clip and leaves wiring that you can butt connect to the aftermarket stereo wires. Should run about $15 at the local crooked stereo shop. Easy color matching there.

 

Shoot, just follow the wires. I've never bought an adaptor. Not that hard. Just find the wires running to the speakers (8 in total, 4 pairs. 2 for front left, 2 for front right, ect), ground, power, remote/acc, power ant., then find a manual for your cd deck to find out what wires are which on the deck itself, then through liberal use of wire strippers and electrical tape (or solder if you're feelin fancy) attach the deck wires to the wires runnin throughout the yoda, and vola, got yerself a new radio installed!

 

from someone who has done this professionaly on everything from 76 hoopTs to F550 maranello ferarri's its not that easy.... Use a DMM

Gimme a picture of it. You probably have a OEM amp in the system and you are loooking at hte pigtail coming out of it.

Here is a pic of a factory stereo with an amp notice the white plug with 4 grooves who's pigtail comes out of a box with fins. That box is the amp:


If you look at the bottom of the box in the above picture you'll see these two plugs which are your run of the mill OEM toyota plugs Met 801761 fits them.


The little plug only carries the rear speakers and the big plug carries, power, accessory, amp turn on, antenna turn on, illumination, dimmer, ground and both front speakers.

But yea gimme a picture of your plug and ill be able to help ya out

 

Hah well, I never claimed to be a professional install of radio's, but I am a professional jerry-rigger! My motto: If it's not broke, fix it till it is. Then jerry-rig it till it works better than before!

Plus, it's cheaper, it works, and you learn something, rather that buying a "plug and play" adaptor that takes all the fun and cursing outta it.

 

i usually dont follow the wire color (installdr.com), i use the diagram of the adaptor to the stock radio by the pin and work from there. Pin locations dont change, wire color does.

Switched 12V+ - Gray
Ground - Brown
Illumination - Green

Front Speakers 4" Dash
Left Front (+) - Pink

alright so is it ok if i cut the thing that plugs into the oem amp?

 

That activates the self destruct mechanism, and the truck will implode in under two minutes... I would not recommend cutting that connection.

 

You guys cut up your Stock wiring harnesses?????

speaking as a owner who has been stuck trying to figure this out before the adapters are cheap 10-15 bucks and make the job so much easier.
just buy the adapter and be done with it.

Edit: maybe I hate you all was a little harsh. I should have said "I think thats a silly thing to do"

 

I second that. They make it easy and when you go to get rid of it its not all rigged it up. You should do it right the first time or not bother at all. trust me mine was a wiring nightmare cause someone thought they knew what they were doing. the first day I had it I ripped out about 20 feet of unnecessary wire.

whats fun is a 2000 VW beetle harness try rigging an aftermarket head unit up to that and still get the factory cd changer to work it took me two days because I couldnt find an adapter anywhere. girlfriends car they use cheap plastic that weakens in the sun and the whole factory radio fell apart one day when she went to push a preset button. Plus you need an adapter for the antenna and there is no room in the dash to shove all those wires.

you don't say what model or year vehicle, and you need to explain what we're looking at in random pictures!

Looks like something ran under rear carpet and between the rear seats? They don't do that at the factory, running unprotected wires thru the cabin is a big fire hazard. The branch's of the harness that feed the rear amps is run along the outside of the cabin.
