key,locks,ignition cylinder problems

Hi,

I bought a 93 p-u that had been sitting around for over two years. The key will not open either door (lock stuck), fuel lid cover (lock stuck) and once the key is turned to lock in the ignition it is very hard to get it out of the locked position to get it started.

How can I get the locks unstuck? I only received one key from the seller and I think it's wore out. Can I get a new key from Toyota some way? If so is there a key number or something like that I can find on the truck?

Thanks

Try some graphite squirted into the locks first. They probably just need lubricating.

If that doesn't work, then you can get replacements aftermarket much cheaper than the dealership.

if the graphite doesnt work, a stealer will sometimes be able to cut a key w/ the VIN, but maybe not for a 93

I had to have the dealer cut a key for my '93 last year. They still had the info on file but they told me I was lucky, they were in the process of deleting that info from the system. Mine showed all the same symptoms as yours - in the end the old key just wouldn't start the truck it was so worn!

Try tri flow lube aswell. I had a similar problem on my porsche. I called a local family owned locksmith and they said that the tumblers inside the cylinder wear along with the key so sometimes if you get a new one cut from the dealer (with your vin) it might not work due to the tumbler wear. I had the locksmith cut a new one from my old key (yes the old key) and It worked fine. Thats just my situation. Just try alot of lube let it sit etc.
