Front Struts

Hi Guys. I have a 2005 4Runner needing front struts. I'm here in Massachusetts and the local repair shop wants $1200 to replace them. Does that seem reasonable to you? Any suggestions or recommendations are welcome. Thank you.

My 2005 4Runner Limited needs new shocks/struts all around. Mileage is 142,000. A local Toyota provider gave me an estimate of $2500.00 for all four hooked up. He additionally warned me that if the Xreas system is worn, it may need to get replaced at a completely costly cost. Can the Xreas machine be removed and ordinary new shocks/struts hooked up, after which is the automobile secure to force....

Do you have the Xreas system? My son has possession of my 2008 and does. He only gets things fixed when he's going to be in town for a few days. The hydraulic liquid leaks out and it's like driving with no shocks. There are multiple threads on eliminating it and going with normal struts and shocks. I know it's a sin here to not spend a ton of money on a name brand, but he got a Chinese package of struts, shocks, and all the hardware for about $150 on eBay. A talented local man who does 4x4 lifts from his home garage did the conversion for $500 in his home garage. The 4Runner rides great. The Toyota parts were going to be $1k+. See if you have a local Toyota truck group on Facebook. Our guy is a treasure but he's busy. I think this is what he bought. It's $186 now and there is also a Detroit Axle kit for $212: Front Struts Rear Shocks Sway Bar Links forToyota 4Runner 2003-2018 FJ Cruiser | eBay

Search for some XREAS posts here. My memory is when looking for parts for the conversion, the search filters would say parts didn't fit when searching by VIN. Many shops (liability?) will not convert from XREAS to normal and Toyota doesn't want you to. He is into it for $650 and very happy.

Struts

Hi Guys.
Thanks for the responses. I went and had a local mechanic do the work. Replaced struts and shocks and a few other minor repairs. $3000. I doubt if he was much cheaper than the dealer.
Rides ok. Nothing great. P.S. I forgot to mention the front axle was replaced too.
