Fuel Pump Recommendation for 1987 PU 22R
Hi,
I am getting some stuttering issues climbing a big (10% grades) mountain pass. I'm committed to replacing my fuel pump but I'm curious what I should get. It's the mechanical pump since it's a 22R. Should I get the Delphi?

I'd love to hear what folks recommend. The truck is running well on the flats...
Thanks.

Are you sure the fuel pump is the issue?
If you are committed to replacing the pump, the best option would to buy the OEM Kyosan Denki fuel pump, however, they can be expensive and hard to find.
I currently have the same Delphi fuel pump you listed and have had no problems with it. It was installed exactly one year ago this week. The Delphi looked to be higher quality than other aftermarket replacements.
It would be a good idea to replace the fuel filter if you haven't already.

Thank you, that's a good suggestion. I do have the Factory OEM Fuel Filter and will probably replace that first. I just moved from sea level to the intermountain west and the terrain here is much more severe. I'm homesteading and I definitely need my truck right now! I will replace the fuel filter tomorrow but I may just purchase the Delphi to have it on hand.

Check your timing, you may need to advance it a little to compensate. Also if you are above 4000ft it might be beneficial to install Toyota's HAC (High Altitude Compensation) valve. It will help air/fuel mixtures by adding more air to low/high speed circuits. I also think it advances the timing but I'm not 100% on that.

I just ordered the fuel pump and watched a video on replacing it. The fuel pump will come with 2 gaskets and I will reuse the existing spacer block. I saw a video in which the person used silicone to combine all the gaskets and block together. Does this make sense? Also, will I need to remove the coolant line? It looks like with the 22R, there is enough room for me to get the actuator arm out of there.
Any thoughts?

I just used the gaskets and spacer without any other sealant. Fuel pump >> gasket >> spacer >> gasket >> head.
I ended up removing the upper radiator hose to fix a coolant leak, so I am not sure if there is enough room.

Thanks old87yota.
I'm getting ready to install the fuel pump and I think I should have enough room to get the new one in without removing the radiator hose. I have about 2 1/2"-3" of space. Here are a few photos of what I am looking at.
