Battery size?

Trying to find the correct fit/size battery for my 81 4wd pickup with little luck. Does anyone know the correct battery size for these trucks? I can't find a battery with the correct dimensions that fit with the stock set up. Every battery is either too short, too tall, and not wide enough. Apparently the battery needs to be: 7.5 inches tall, 6.5 inches wide(for the hold down), and no more than 11 inches long. Gunna hit up some other places for batteries soon, if anything changes I will update, but any help is welcome haha. Maybe people with these trucks wanna show their battery setup ^_^.

Unless your going for a 100% stock factory look you might need to modify your battery Hold down.

Maybe even a new battery tray as well.

Some of the batteries from Interstate lists for your year are the MPT-24 and The MT-24 Both are 8.75" tall

A listing from Napa picked at random for the 81 the Height was 8 1/8 "

I doubt even buying a battery from Toyota would match.

Yeah I want a battery that fits correctly, VIA the factory look haha. I usually do buy my batteries from Toyota, but none of their batteries fit. The battery I thought would fit that I use in my other trucks is a group 25. Which is perfect except it's too tall by a 1/2 inch. Group 24F is perfect except the terminals are incorrect.

Lots of other batteries are close but not exact like I want haha.

Apparently they quit making the battery that this truck needs. Toyotas battery table doesn't even go back to that year.

I couldn't find a stock battery size either, but I ended up going with an Optima 34/78 (dual post) with a billet aluminum battery tie down that I snagged for around $65 on eBay. I ran a 4ga ground cable from the top post to the body then to the frame then to the engine as well as from the body ground to a grounding block for future accessories. I ran an 8ga cable from the top post to a power distribution block that I have all of my fusible links running to as well a non-keyed fuse box for a constant power source. I then ran an 8ga cable from the side post to my starter. My setup isn't intended for super heavy draw items (such as a winch or high output alternator), but it is definitely beefier than the stock setup. I also noticed that all the batteries that "supposedly" fit lacked the cold cranking amps that group 34/78 provides. I NEVER have a problem starting my truck what-so-ever.

Here' what mine looks like:

Very cool set up thanks for the post, I do like that set up might look into it. I kinda did plan in the future to get some truck accessories so it might be a good idea to update my cables and my battery.

I know this is an old thread but I today purchased a group size 25 EXT battery and it is the perfect fit. 8 inches tall 9.5 long and 7 inches wide. The same sized battery was also used in the 720 series Nissan trucks

I have a '78 and have found that a 24R or 26R fits well. The "R' means positive terminal on the right (passenger side) & the dimensions work with the given space with no problems. Cold cranking amps (CCA) is usually around 530 nominal.
