Are there DIY options for repairing faded Toyota paint?

I'm pretty handy with a spraygun so has anyone come up with a good paint system or process for spot painting or repainting the all too common faded paint? Thx!

Single stage, you buff and wax..
Base coat clear coat, you are going to have to respray clear and depending on the color (flakes?, Multiple layers of paint) and its current state blend or respray.

My local paint supply house mentioned not being able to guarantee a match on single stage. They recommended base coat / clear for a good match. My Horizon blue 8N1
Is not a common color so its $27-35 per spray can. Then 13.00 a can for auto clear. Not sure which way to go.
