This is the second time this has happened. Last time it was just the rear brake line from the LSPV to the axle. Having 100℅ new brakes in the front feels amazing though. Truck stops on a dime even without the dinky drums in the rear. Man I don't think the rears have been doing any good anyway.

 

I'm going to restore the 85 pickup. I've made up my mind. So. Since I'll be taking it completely apart and replacing or repairing everything, I picked up an electric impact and a wire wheel along with other goods. Time to get started tearing apart the white 85 pickup!!! I love new tools

$50 + a 2 year warranty at harbor freight. I'm a big fan of harbor freight tools. I've seen people dog their quality but I keep my tools in cases or boxes and they last for me. This impact put in work on some bed bolts today. I would hate to use a hand tool on those things.

 

I've always kind of wanted one of those corded wrenches. I have a Dewalt 1/2" 18V that I carry on me like a cop's pistol. Use it every single day and don't know what I'd do without it. You can buy them not for about $120 on Amazon and get two generic batteries for $40. That's what I have been buying for my logging jobs lately.

 

I have a DeWalt 24v drill and it's my baby. Nobody touches the DeWalt lol. I like Makita too. I've never had anything Milwaukee though.

 

I've got a drill, sawzall, impact and the charging radio. I can't even remember when I got the drill but it's been ten years at least. My original batteries started testing bad on the charger just maybe a year ago. I have only had to buy one pair of batteries. I say that is pretty exceptional for the price. The batteries don't even bother me. My radio will charge and run on anything from 6 to 18 volts. Those two worn out batteries will still run the radio all night.

I'm looking to start upgrading to 20V. If my radio would charge them, I would have already jumped on a couple of sales.

 

I've got that too and if it died tomorrow it's already paid for itself. I hate corded tools though. Something with being left handed I end up wrapped in cord. This is a great project. That little red truck will be awesome. I guess it'll be part white though.

 

I don't trust this thing to tighten my lugnuts, but it will run them down snug pretty easily. I want to paint the inside of the white cab the same red I'll use on the 85. I want it to be red, with bushwhacker flares, and white SR5 stripes. And probably some super swamper tsl's. I love the gaudy 80s style trucks and kinda want to recreate that vibe.

 

My dad is convinced that I should just cut the top of the cab off of the red 85 and the white 85 and swap them due to the inner fender on the white truck being significantly damaged. I don't think we have the experience to weld such thin metal personally. Any thoughts?

 

I would think the cab swap would be easier, and you could use the inner fender from the red one.

 

How much is significant? Is the metal torn? Take some measurements inside the cab and engine compartment to see how and where its out of square. The top off job isnt tough but you would definately want to structure the cab with a temp frame to keep things in check. I can help if you go that route. But check all your cross measurements first to see if its as bad as it looks. Ive been out of town this past week but im back in "holy **** its hot" floriduh

 

My main concern is that the metal is so thin. I do work with some hardcore, no BS welders and I'm thinking about asking one of them to actually burn the metal in for me. Jake, I'm leaning towards your idea about using the red trucks inner fender on the white cab. That makes the most sense to me really. I'd still pay someone to do that though. I can do the prep work.

Tony the humidity is insane here right now. Can't imagine how it is there. My family in Naples gets rain every day, maybe just for 15 minutes but it's basically ALWAYS muggy.

That's an unusually low price for a bike like that. I just rebuilt my trusty mid-90's cannondale, but your Diamondback cost less than my replacement parts. Any decent mtb seems to go for $1000+ on Craigslist up here.
